Oktoberfest 2011
We were totally oblivious that the Oktoberfest begins today and runs until Oktober 3rd. Somehow I thought that it'll be starting around Oktober 3rd but I was proved wrong. Anyway, we took a long walk today to the city center and maybe 60 % of the people on the streets were in traditional Bayern costumes in all possible colors. Petar suggested that maybe we should get some for next year ...
We couldn't go to the lawns with the tents and the beer today but we surely have to before the end of the Fest!

First week
We arrived in Munich a week ago (with 5 large boxes, 3 suitcases, car seat, stroller, diaper bag, and 3 carry-ons). The latter five we dragged with ourselves on the S-Bahn and the subway all the way to our new 'home'. Life has been interesting ever since. We're finally adjusted to the time difference, and we've gotten used to living in this furnished apartment. Our first impressions so far:
- The city is very green, clean and well maintained.
- This apartment has a great location but we will try to find our own (unfurnished) place once the lease expires in December.
- There are bikes everywhere - it looks like it is one of the main ways of transportation around here. I wonder if it'll be the same in the winter.
- There are a lot of parks in the neighborhood where we live but the playgrounds are different than the ones Sofia has been used to. She needs assistance to get on the slide, and just stands there and stares at the other kids playing around her. At the same time, older children seem to have a blast climbing all the play structures so I guess she'll be fine next year.
- Maybe we'll survive.
